Anonymised technical examination case
Technical examination of blockchain and crypto-asset transactions
Without disclosing any person, institution or file details, this case shows the method and limits used to examine blockchain records, address relationships and platform data. It presents a technical examination process and its output, not a legal conclusion.
Problem
A blockchain record, information associated with an address, platform data and allegations in a file are separate evidence layers. Treating them as one can create unsupported links between the occurrence of a transfer and address ownership, transaction intent or legal responsibility.
Context
In an anonymised technical examination, supplied transaction records, platform or banking data and accessible blockchain records were assessed for consistency. The examination was limited to what the available technical material could verify.
My Role
I defined the technical scope of the examination question, separated data sources and evidence layers, verified transactions, considered alternative explanations and reported each finding with its technical limits.
Approach
- Define the examination question, available material and data sources
- Make source, integrity and methodological constraints explicit
- Verify transaction records against accessible blockchain data
- Assess transfers, address relationships, platform accounts and person links as separate evidence layers
- State alternative explanations and additional data needs
- Report each finding with its confidence level and technical limits
Produced Output
The work produced a technical examination report, transaction and relationship analysis, a description of sources and methods, verifiable findings, matters that could not be verified, alternative explanations and limitation notes identifying additional data needs.
Critical Learning
A transfer visible on a blockchain does not by itself verify address ownership, transaction intent or legal responsibility. A reliable technical report is strengthened by stating not only what the data verifies, but also what it cannot verify and which additional evidence would be required.
